On September 30, the Silver Bridge Bruisers Roller Derby Team is having their first home bout at the National Guard Armory in Millwood, West Virginia: Mothman Mayhem. The Silver Bridge Bruisers was formed in the fall of 2015. They have skated several bouts against away teams, but this is their first opportunity to bring roller derby to this area.
The Bruisers are comprised of skaters from Gallia, Jackson, Pike, Vinton, and Meigs counties in Ohio and Mason County in West Virginia. The Bruisers play under the current Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) Ruleset.
Roller derby is one of the fastest growing sports in the country with many teams in the surrounding area. This bout will be a double header. The first game is Roundtown Roller Derby, from Circleville, Ohio against Rail City Rollers from Salem, Virginia. The second game is the main event: Silver Bridge Bruisers against Athens Ohio Roller Derby B team.
Roller Derby is a family friendly sport that is empowering to women of all ages. This event will help benefit Serenity House, a local women’s shelter, that helps women and children overcome abuse. We will be accepting donations at the door. Tickets can be bought in advance from any Bruiser for $10 or online through Eventbrite. Tickets at the door will be $12 or $10 with a donation to Serenity House. Kids 12 and under are free.
Mothman Mayhem will be held on September 30; doors will open at 3 pm with the first bout starting at 4pm; the Silver Bridge Bruisers will take the track at 6 pm. A local food vendor will be on site also.
